Irradiance vs.Power from the Curing Light
Просмотров 62Месяц назад
This video compares the irradiance measured from a curing light with the measured power. It can be seen that a curing light that is measured to have a high irradiance value does not always have a high power output. This is because the irradiance is calculated from the power/the tip area, and determining the active tip area is not always easy.
Demonstrando a diferença entre potência e irradiância

This video uses several radiometers from different brands to measure two curing lights. You can see that the Blurphase Meter II can report the power of the curing lights and the other two radiometers showed rather different values. Which one tells you how powerful the lights are?
Is Bluephase accurate? Bluephase Meter II Compared to the MiniGig
Просмотров 45Месяц назад
This video uses two lights to compare Ivoclar's Bluephase Meter II with Ultradent's MiniGig. As you can see, the Bluephase Meter II is an accurate power meter. Note that measuring the radiant power from the curing light is a much better way than reporting the irradiance due to the vagaries of determining the active light tip area (irradiance= power/area)

Effect of light-curing a composite with small and large tip curing lights
Просмотров 842 месяца назад
This video demonstrates the effect of light-curing a composite disc that is the same size as the mesio-distal dimension of a mandibular molar for 10 s with a small and a large tip curing light. Note that the small light tip does not fully cover the composite. After immersion in acetone, the small light tip does not cure the composite very well beyond the light tip. This happens both at the top ...

Is there any block out needed around gingival margins? So not to iritare gumline of patient? Or is that a simple chair side adjustment? Thank you fornthe great video!
In cases of severe undercuts, maybe. It is a case-by-case situation. No blockout is required usually.
What is a composite?
It is a white dental filling
Interesting information
Glad you think so!
Caleb: Good point, but many amalgam users think you can pack a composite ike an amalgam. You cannot. This is why I like to use heated compules of composite, incrementally placed and adapted, but then bulk cured.
This is an interesting video, but I'd like to see the demonstration redone with less initial composite and a more appropriately sized condenser. I feel like most people would take a smaller first increment and really focus not so much on compacting the composite but pushing it down into all the preps line angles
Thanks for sharing!! Materials that are compatible and cured under UV, won't be compatible with visible light.
That is correct. The light MUST be at the correct wavelength.
I have a question dr
Dr, like your content very much
Hello i'm live in Việt Nam. I can't buy that material. Can you tell me what is name of this matirial. I can't find the same matirial in Việt Nam.

Hello, thank you for putting out these videos. I just finished my PhD and was pleased to reference you a number of times. I have a question though. I used the Bluephase to measure the output of my LCU, which was a BASE290 from BA International. It's dual peak. I was getting different readings for every subsequent push of the button. Do you know why that might have happened?
No idea, was it in ramp mode, were you measuring power or irradiance?
@@CuringLights hello, thanks so much for replying. It wasn't in ramp mode, it was in full power mode (3000 mW/cm^2 peak), and I was primarily measuring irradiance. I measured over 200 consecutive 5 second cycles, each at full power, with a pre-set (by the LCU) rest between cycles of 5 seconds. Irradiance dropped off sharply for the first dozen cycles (from memory) before the drop was a few tens of mW/cm^2. The battery only lasted long enough to measure 200 cures. Total drop was about 10%
@@herrzyklon : Sounds right.
Sir.. Can we use a layer of flowable composite in stead of a bonding agent as uncured resin before placing a second layer of packable composite?
That is what I would do. Why use bonding agent?
thank you sir for sharing your knowledge,
Amazing Video sir. thank you for sharing.
Who do this in Thailand ?
Doesn't heating the scalpel wreck the blade. We use a device similar to an electric hand held soldering iron.
what is the cellophane used for? what does this do?
Smoothing the material and improve the adaptation. It seems to work.
Just one question , if I heated the composite , will there be a pulp inflammation due to heat or not ????
Its gonna be warm enough to flow better but not that hot that it would cause a pulpal reaction
What about the test of these curing lights?
Hello, I recently had the opportunity to explore your RUclips channel. I must say that I am impressed with the quality of content you are creating. Your video doesn't have a good Thumbnail. it has come to my attention that the title description, video tag, video SEO and high-volume keywords are not included ―This is why you don't get much more views from your content . I also saw in your videos that your videos are not S.E.O friendly (Search Engine Optimization) while you upload video. If you want I can send you a audit file of your channel issues. Thanks and Regards Mukta

Hm.....what if you use 1 second light for 3/ 5 times.....allso, from diferent angels. Sure, with few seconds of pause...cos, we do not wish to burn the nerv?!? Is it still so bad...ore become a winer? Allso, G4 have to small aperture/ 8mm....and can not cower biger area, which will cose a problems with ununique polimerisatione.
Well, it all depends on the light output. Let's say you use a light that delivers 1,500 mW/cm2 for 10s. Then you will deliver 15 J/cm2 of energy. If your light delivers 3,000 mW/cm2 then you would have to use it for at least 5 s to deliver the same amount of energy. Unfortunately, dental composites do not obey exposure reciprocity, so you actually have to deliver more energy as the irradiance goes up. Start curing from angles, even less energy is delivered. Simple physics and simple chemistry. Sorry to burst the bubble on fast curing.
Does anybody know can I use the same type of material for dentq laboratory dental vacuum forming molding 110v machine it’s same function machine. But I noticed retainers and mouth guards are a bit of different material. Please if anybody has answer I’d appreciate it.

Hello Dr. Price. Can you please measure the woodpecker o-star curing light as well?
Excellent! Beam Collimation and homogeneity are also important features that matter in LCU quality
I agree, as well as delivering a good irradiance at 8 mm distance.
A multi-peak curing light will photo-cure all resins.
Hello Dr. Price! Thank you for all these great videos. I have one question regarding this video. What is the positive of having a multi-pick curing light ?
It will cure all resins, but it must be well designed, otherwise it will be spectrally non-uniform across the light tip.

I want to say thank you fot this video! With the help of this video, I was able to make my own guard. My 1st pair (a thinner and a thicker one) was 50€ in 2013. Now I should pay 400€. I have made my 1st guard already. Now cost ~2€/pc.
So glad I could help you
WOW, there are some really bad lights out there. Honestly, I am shocked. No wonder the median life expectancy for a posterior composite is 6-7 years.
👍👍🙌🙌 Looking forward to the results of the test. Really curious to see how the woodpecker lights compare to the valo and bluephase !
Please let us know your conclusions 📝😀 I will be waiting for new fresh information about emerging curing light brands!
What’s the tickness of the material
What if the customer has two front teeth missing ?
No problem. Just make it without the teeth.
Thank you master
Thank you master
What material and size do you use?
Where can i get all the machines
Yeah I would want to know too
It would seem that using flowable in the bottom of the box would address the flow and void issues, like in a PVS imression. Also using a big increament in the initial example and then using the unidose tip in the warmed example is not exactly apples to apples.
Agreed. But It is not my idea: Seewww.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/12540112 Some call it the snow-plow technique
Very interesting! I’d be intrigued to see what the MOD mold would look like after trans-enamel polymerization
As you know, dentists should not rely on trans enamel polymerization, it will certainly help, but totally unreliable. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32053462 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11203991 'transmitted irradiance decreases exponentially with tooth struc- ture thickness and is lowered to insignificant values in 3-mm-thick tooth walls'
How much $$ ??
Well done Richard
